There are so many bittersweet milestones in motherhood, and moving Graham into his big boy room was definitely one of them.
What used to be our catch-all guest bedroom, filled with leftover furniture, hand-me-downs, and things without a real home, is now officially Graham’s room. And somehow, it became one of my favorite spaces in the house.
I wanted this room to feel playful and imaginative for him while still feeling cohesive with the rest of our home. I never wanted it to feel overly themed or temporary, but I also didn’t want to design a room that felt more like my space than his. So this room became a mix of both of us.
Antiques and thrifted old-world treasures layered alongside oversized cheetah stuffies, Paw Patrol sheets, and every little boy detail he loves right now.
And honestly? I think little boys deserve that.
They deserve the blue room they dream about. The silly bedding. The collections proudly displayed on shelves. The room that feels magical to them.
Graham helped pick out so many parts of this room, which made the whole process even sweeter. Nothing makes me happier than hearing him proudly tell family and friends, “Want to see my big boy room?”
So let’s break it all down.
The Overall Vision
I knew I wanted this room to feel cozy, collected, and classic while still leaving room for imagination and play.
The foundation of the room leans more timeless — layered textiles, antique furniture, warm lighting, vintage-inspired details — but the personality comes through in all the little things Graham loves most right now.
The end result feels playful without sacrificing the character and warmth that I love filling our home with.
Paint, Lighting & Room Details
The room started with the prettiest blue paint color that instantly made the whole space feel calm and cozy.
Room Details
- Paint Color: Teton Blue by Behr Paint
- Green Metal Light Fixture
- Curtains & Faux Wood Curtain Rods
- Rug & Rug Pad
One of my favorite things about this room is how layered it feels. Between the soft textiles, the painted walls, and all the vintage-inspired details, it immediately feels lived in and loved.

Furniture Finds
Most of the furniture in this room was either thrifted, collected over time, or repurposed in some way, which honestly made the room feel even more special.
I love rooms that feel gathered slowly instead of perfectly ordered all at once.

- Nightstand (similar)
The mix of wood tones and older pieces keeps the room from feeling too “kid room” while still being functional for this season of life.

Bed Details
The bed area might be my favorite part of the whole room.
The bed frame itself is actually an antique piece I purchased years ago, long before I ever knew it would end up here. Seeing it styled in Graham’s room now feels really special.
And then we layered in all the fun little boy touches that make it feel like his.

And yes… there are definitely Paw Patrol sheets underneath all of this. Because that’s what being little is all about.

The Little Details That Matter
I really think the smallest details are what make children’s spaces feel magical.
The pennant flags, the stars on the ceiling, the thrifted sports displays (skis and balls projects!), all of those little pieces tell the story of who Graham is right now.
And someday I know I’ll look back on all these tiny details and feel so thankful I leaned into them instead of trying to make everything feel perfectly styled.

One thing I’ve learned while decorating this home is that children’s spaces can still feel intentional and thoughtful without losing the fun. A little boy’s room doesn’t have to sacrifice personality to feel beautiful.
In fact, I think the most meaningful rooms are the ones that reflect the people living in them most honestly.
This room feels like Graham right now, imaginative, playful, cozy, energetic, sweet, and full of personality, and I know we’ll treasure this season for years to come.
And while I’m sure this room will continue to evolve as he grows, for now, it feels exactly right.
